Hi,
All my efforts to add a complete set of subtitles to an avi file, failed. Some titles show up, others are cut in the middle or disappear.
My problem takes place in a section of a video, where a lot of talking takes place.
Are there any limits to number of letters and/or the duration of a specific subtitle?
Are there any other restrictions I should take into acount?

As long as the times don't overlap, there's no problem
1
00:00:02,520 --> 00:00:05,640
Stitch-up. It was a stitch-up.
2
00:00:39,760 --> 00:00:42,800
"He's a motivator, an entertainer.
11
00:00:43,000 --> 00:00:46,520
The actual location of the Recycle Bin depends on the type of operating system and file system.
On older FAT file systems (typically Windows 98 and prior), it is located in
Drive:\RECYCLED.
In the NTFS filesystem (Windows 2000, XP, NT) it is Drive:\RECYCLER.
On Windows Vista and Windows 7 it is Drive:\$Recycle.Bin folder
12
00:00:46,680 --> 00:00:49,960
"No! What? Put that bit in. Cut the other stuff out.

I still wonder what's wrong.
Will it be too much to ask you to check the following short srt file? When it comes to the the sentence "Throwing up can cause a thiamine deficiency", subtitles start losing order, not all of them show up:
Here's the file:
1
00:00:00,675 --> 00:00:03,281
Two days ago when you went for a walk
2
00:00:04,260 --> 00:00:06,800
Did you find a street kitten?
3
00:00:05,840 --> 00:00:08,040
you took her home,
4
00:00:08,100 --> 00:00:10,200
you called her Millie?
5
00:00:14,201 --> 00:00:16,800
How did you know about Millie?
6
00:00:23,000 --> 00:00:25,000
She's innocent
7
00:00:25,000 --> 00:00:27,000
What're you talking about she signed a confession?
8
00:00:27,000 --> 00:00:28,400
You were right about her having bulimia
9
00:00:28,401 --> 00:00:30,400
Throwing up can cause a thiamine deficiency
10
00:00:30,401 --> 00:00:33,400
and thiamine deficiency can cause Korsakoff syndrome
11
00:00:34,000 --> 00:00:36,200
Korsakoff what?
12
00:00:36,201 --> 00:00:38,200
A neurological disorder characterized by anterograde amnesia
13
00:00:38,200 --> 00:00:40,200
extreme susceptibility to suggestion and confabulation
14
00:00:40,201 --> 00:00:42,000
I tell her she has a cat named Millie
15
00:00:42,000 --> 00:00:43,400
she remembers having a cat named Millie
16
00:00:43,401 --> 00:00:45,200
you tell her she bashed her husband
17
00:00:45,200 --> 00:00:45,300
over the head with a golf trophy
18
00:00:45,300 --> 00:00:46,000
she remembers that
19
00:00:46,000 --> 00:00:47,000
only there is no cat
20
00:00:47,000 --> 00:00:48,000
I made that up
21
00:00:48,000 --> 00:00:49,200
just like you made up a story
22
00:00:49,200 --> 00:00:50,200
about a murder plot
23
00:00:50,200 --> 00:00:52,100
to collect life insurance
24
00:00:52,100 --> 00:00:55,429
a bit of a clich? isn't it?

Look at the times on lines 2 and 3
Line 3 starts before line 2 ends.

you took her home,
