I am considering purchasing an Ipod and would like to get some first hand info on whether my needs will be met.

1. I need to install software for birding and I think this needs no comment as I see several that are compatible but if someone has suggestions, I am listening.

2. I would like to watch movies and I have my own extensive library. Can I get my own movies on the Ipod? Also, is there an output that will let the Ipod function as a player on a TV screen?

3. I need a device that records. I play music by ear and need to be able to record a song that I here at a jam or at someones house etc will the Ipod do this?

4. Should I wait till the next generation comes out which I hear rumored is September? And if I wait, what is your opinion, Buy the G3 at what should be reduced prices or buy the G4 in the first month of release before the bugs are worked out?

Thanks, any help would be appreciated, I am traveling for a month Sept/Oct with lots of driving, waiting in airports and would love to have Movies, music and books to pass the time. It?s also a birding trip.
