when i turn the ipod on it just has a pic of the usb charger and i tunes sign cant get it todo anything else, would be greatful with any help

Sounds crazy but put itunes on another computer and open the program. Plug in the iPod and it should notice that it's in recovery mode and fix itself, with your help of course. Sometimes another computer can do what one can't.
