I have a new ipod touch 4th generation 8gb and most of my music takes up the device. I would like to add more apps but can't is there some way to delete the songs from my ipod and reinstall them at a smaller mb. an example is say I dl a song that is 3mb long can i make 1.5 mb long so I can get more songs for less space. I hope I explain this right.
thanks

Yes you can but the quality will be effected. You can download the trial version dbpoweramp converter make sure you install encoders for lame, helix and apple. The most compact formats for maintaining quality would be mp3 VBR. However at 3 meg a file these are well compressed to begin with. Transcoding, that is what you want to do, using highly compressed audio suffers heavy quality loss. Still you can try, maybe your ear buds are too poor to hear the difference. If that is the case you win! If you are still using the factory issued buds they are quite terrible and you might not hear any loss.

thanks but at my age I am already losing my hearing. so the quality of the music wouldn't help. Is this a difficult process, time consuming or downright stupid of me to try this. I am trying to get more bang for the buck here with this ipod touch. thanks

i rip my music to my hdd at 320kbps.some songs sound ok at 128 others sound terrible.think it mainly depends on the song and the program used to rip it.anything below 128 sounds terrible.

custom built gaming pc from early 2010,ps2 with 15 games all original,ps3 500gbs with 5 games all original, yamaha amp and 5.1channel surround sound speakers,46inch sony lcd smart tv.

There is a huge difference between VBR and regular mp3s especially at the lower bit rates. A 128 VBR is somewhere in the equivalent of 160 kbps. Purely electronic and voice can be compressed at least down to 128 without much loss. Natural acoustic stringed instruments lose much at 128. The tool I suggested will give you many more options and is the top of the line tool and you can use it for free. Lesser tools may produce artifacts, noises that should not be there. Some of these can be quite loud. A common one sounds like a pebble hitting a windshield at high speed. That can be so loud it can hurt your ears.

HD radio is 90 BR to give you a reference.
