Hi Everyone, first off i appologize if i am posting this in the wrong category but it all started from viruses. While i was attempting to get rid of the viruses on my pc i did a reboot and got the BSOD. I couldnt boot in any mode so i resorted to reinstalation. My dad brought me a Windows XP Professional, service pack 3 disc. When i booted from the disc i chose to format in ntfs format(Quick) and deleted the existing partition. It formated with no problems but it says "setup is copying files, this may take several minutes" It takes about 4 hours to get to 46% and then stops. It has done this three times. I was going to try and create a usb boot device but i cannot update my bios, therfor i cannot boot from a usb. i have no blank cd's to create a bios update disc or another boot disk so i am stuck. i just want my computer to work again. Can anyone help me? Thankyou so much in advance.

Corey

BSOD is indicative of a hardware problem in your computer. Possibly bad RAM or some other device malfunctioning.

If you have 2 sticks of RAM, remove on and see if the symptom chnages. If you still have the problem, swap the stick left in the computer with the other. If it still fails, there is a small chance that you have 2 bad sticks of RAM or the problem is in another component, possibly the HDD or controller.

Simple effective hardware test is say linux puppy since it's a small download on to cd,if comp boots one has to assume either the hdd is shot or the mobo controller or cables to the hdd, ummm you could attempt switching the secondary hdd wires to the master hdd & see what happens,if it works hdd is ok,that leaves IDE ribbon or SATA data cable or the mobo controller

Edit: xp should take i think 15-45 mins to install or there abouts,it's been a while since i installed it,while i'm here it would pay to nvest in symantec ghost, acronis true image or there's the free macrium reflect to create one time images at differing points of software reinstall & updates,it saves having to reformat & waste time reinstalling all the crap

moved to correct forum as not a virus issue.
C0r3y09, don't do a quick format but a full format to see if have bad spots on the hard drive. delete the partition, make a new partition then do a full format. any finger prints or scratches on the xp cd bottom?
