Its a 7 year old laptop. Will media work on it?
When you said key you mean the product key that is on the bottom of the laptop?

it should work as long as it has the min requirements, if your installing it on the same computer then it shouldnt be a problem but with all windows that have a number of time they can be installed on different computers

You should be able to do it, but you would have to crack windows, as this is not technically allowed.

Media center should work, just search your laptop's homepage for drivers specific to media center. but I ask why install it if your laptop is not your media hub, connected to a proper stereo tuner and with a TV tuner installed?
The sticker on the bottom of your laptop shows your CURRENT windows key for your CURRENT OS. If you install something different the key wont work with different OS, only the one spelled out on the tag.

I may be missing something here but ... you have 2 computers .. one with XP and another with XP Media Centre Edition right?

Which computer are you wanting to install XP MCE onto? .. do you want XP MCE on both machines or do you have 2 computers, one came with XP and XP MCE discs and you're wanting to use the un-used XP MCE install discs on your second machine?

If this is the case then legally it's not allowed as both versions of XP came with one machine and you choose one OR the other to install NOT both.

I will try to explain better.
I have an old laptop with windows xp installed.
I would like to reinstall windows because it is running slow and I have never reinstalled windows on this computer.
I dont have the disc that came with the computer.
MS told me I would have to purchase a boot disc.
I dont want to spend money on this lap top so I would like to know If there is a way to reformat my lap top with my other computers boot disc which happens to be media edition.
