I have an upgrade for Windows XP Home Edition SP2. Is there any way I can download and get Media Center for my XP Home version? Mycomputer will not handle Windows 7. I only have a single core processor.

Please provide the following information:
Brand and model number of you PC.
What current Operating System is installed, such as, Windows XP Home Edition SP1
To find out what OS is installed, click on START, right click MY COMPUTER, select Properties.
A Media Center type PC would include the following information.
System:
Microsoft Windows XP
Media Center Edition
Version 2005
Service Pack 3

I think i mention I have Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2.
Not sure the brand really matters but it is A HP Palvion AMD 3.0gHz processor about 2gig of memory.

No offense but that link doesn't really tell me anything on how to get XP Media Center. It is just a general discussion on Media Center PC's.

theres plenty of computer there to run win7.im running it on a 2.8 ghz intel celeron d with 1gig of ram and its working fine.you would probably have to upgrade your video card because of driver issues.

There are many websites where you can download and buy an OS. A Google search will provide those results. However, you must consider if you old system will support Windows XP Media Center Edition. This is why I had asked you earlier for the brand and model of your PC. You decided not to provide this when asked. This question was asked to determine if your motherboard will support Media Center hardware and software. The link I sent you earlier, describes the hardware components needed. That is why I provided the link. We can not help you if you don't want to answer questions. I believe you came to Afterdawn to get help with your issue. But, you'll need to work with us for this to be possible. Perhaps, someone else will leave a comment to further assist you.

from what i was able to get googling this subject,windows xp media center is a seperate and distinct version of windows xp.given that you would have to purchase or otherwise procure this operating system.in other words it doesnt appear to be a downloadable addon for your xp home.

Alden is correct your comp can run win 7 quite easily,your graphic card would be the sticking point,however what is it specifcally that you reqiure windows MCE as there are free alternatives like xbmc etc

berkner "WHAT" do you want the media center part of xp for,is there a reason xbmc will not do,xbmc is a "FREE" media center that can be installed as an app in windows either in full screen or windowed or as a standalone operating system in dual boot alongside xp or if you want is a media player then vlc or klite will suffice

I just bought HDTV card for my computer and my friend uses Windows Player to record and view his recordings. It looks really but I don't want to buy a new operating system. If there is a good free one or inexpensive one that is just as good I would be interested. My Hauppauge HD card comes with it's own recording software but not as good as Windows Media Center.

I looked up XBMC but could tell if it will run under Windows XP, it looks nice though.

Got my hopes up but just saw this:
Unfortunately, the XBMC does not support TV tuner cards out-of-the box, so it is not suitable as a DVR interface.
Maybe there is one out there that does.

You tuner card software can record also once stations are set including schedules
edit: any media player should be able to play the recordings

Sorry, I meant to say Windows Media Center.
I think I may have found an alternative, Media Portal, says it will work with Windows XP
