I'm getting a black screen on my Compaq Presario 700 when I start it. No hard drive activity. Nothing, just the cursor which I can move around the black screen. I have no idea what happened, it was pretty sudden. Any ideas?

see if can get into safemode by pressing f8 just after the computer starts up.

I did try that. In Safe mode it does the same thing.

can you get into the bios & see if the hard drive is seen?
