Any Advise for Movie Maker Lag Problems ?

I've searched quite a bit but can't seem to come up with the answer to cure lag troubles in the pre-view pane while editing video footage. When I watch video it's as if trying to watch a video on dial-up that just can not load fast enough. Makes editing near impossible. I have tried deselecting any .ax choices in compatability windows. I have a dedicated graphics card on a brand new laptop running Vista.
