Hi, as in the title - am using SwissVPN and want to be 100% sure that my PC is only using this for P2P internet access. Don't mind email/other services going out via non-encrypted/non-VPN'd comms but want to make sure my P2P is secure. Have setup Swiss VPN and all is working.
cheers

OK, have found some info that may help others - in the advanced utorrent preferences you set the following to be the same as your assigned IP address from the VPN service: net.bind_ip and net.outgoing_ip. If your VPN provider assigns dynamic IPs then you will likely need to sort this each time you reconnect.

Remaining question though is - when my VPN dies as it may from time to time will utorrent just stop working or will it use the alternative route via my regular ISPs internet connection?

cheers

I would suggest you to think twice before you send your money to these guys.
I've subscribed for them in less than two hours from the time of writing this comment.
I was using another VPN provider and put my French email while signing up for the service (I love my email address ending in .fr).
I am living in Bulgaria and my VISA is registered in Bulgaria.
My first payment was rejected because I had insufficient money to pay for two months of VPN service. Well, I paid for one month.

In less than an hour I got disconnected and my user login information has been rejected. I mailed back SwissVPN customer support and they told me that my money had been refund because of « discrepancy between the information you have entered and your registered card details ».
I mailed them back with a copy of my VISA Electron and my EU ID card. In a few minutes I had another reply that it was a mistake and they flagged my payment because of « French mailaddress, purchase in Luxembourg, usage in Bulgaria, first purchase attempt denied, second with lower amount passed ».

Be aware while sending your money to these guys, as they will probably not trust you and flag your account if you subscribe using email address hosted in France, while being connected from VPN server based in Luxembourg.

Just to clarify SwissVPN will not "secure your P2P" as you intend it to. You simply tunnel your traffic to a server in Sweden which acts as a middleman taking your requests and distributing them (with a Swedish IP) and taking the replies and forwarding them back to you. Nothing is secure, the company may say they don't keep logs but how can you know for sure? Even w/o logs if you paid via PayPal there proof that your account was used to purchase said service and that account is tied to your name. Same thing essentially if you paid by any form of Credit/Debit card.

If you want to check if your VPN connection is working first disable it. First disable the VPN and open up - http://www.whatismyip.com/ - in your browser. It will give you the IP address that your currently tied to. Now restart/reinitiate the VPN and go back to the above website. If your IP has changed your using a VPN. If it hasn't changed your not accessing the internet via a VPN.

In my opinion, if your that paranoid that you feel the need to use a VPN then you shouldn't be using a VPN because like I said it is tied to you. What happens should you be caught and your PC confiscated? How would you explain why your PC has VPN software and matching credentials for the account there investigating? If it was me I'd just make my Wifi open/unencrypted that way should you get sued you can say that anyone in the neighborhood could have downloaded the "files in question" since you have a open connection. Create some Plausible Deniability.
