Here is something weird (or annoying), and I hope that somebody can help me...
Whenever I open Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) and scroll over the window/screen, I hear 2 mixed voices that explain me how to clean my cache and cookies. One voices is loud and clear, and explains how to do this in IE8. The other voice is softer and more in the background, and explains how to do this in Firefox. It's actually the same 'person' but with two different 'stories'.
Also, whenever I open ONE WINDOW of IE8, I see 2 versions of iexplorer.exe running in Windows Task Manager, and sometimes even 3.
I was thinking of a virus or mallware, but I've scanned my computer thorougly with anti-virus software (Kaspersky, Ad-Aware), and all seems to be clean. The only real 'big' change that I can remember was an automatic update from IE7 to IE8, by means of Windows Update.
Does anybody have any ideas on what it might be???
Relevant information:
Windows XP SP3
Internet Explorer 8
Firefox (uninstalled after problems showed up)
Windows Firewall Kaspersky AV (installed after problems showed up)
OK, I used hijackthis. It found 2 items that shouldn't be there. Checked them, removed them. System is now clean.
Still, at random the voices still appear! Different anti virus software gives me nothing, and neither do AdAware or new Hijackthis scans.
It seems the problem occurs only when I'm using Windows Media Player AND IE8 at the same time. But I still can't find out where the problems is coming from!
For the record I will give you part of the voice message: "To clear your cache in Internet Explorer/Firefox, click on the..."
It seems more like a tutorial than anything else, but where is it coming from???
I had a simular problem when fixing a customers computer and it was malware. I got rid of it using various programs including hijackthis, combo fix, malware bytes and various antispyware programs. I do not regard myself as very skilled in tutoring malware removal and would suggest you post your problem in the virus and spyware section together with your fresh hijack this log as some of these guys are very good at giving concise clear instructions.
Google toolbar going crazy in this case. If you uninstall it, or prevent it to connect to google automaticly (suggest, etc), the voices are dissapearing. Dont know why it does. Dont ask me! :)
(these are some video tutorials from google video, and youtube. You can find them)
For some reason your remark about Google toolbar hits the mark. I know it isn't malware, I've checked over and over with several programs yet they can't find anything!
Also, it seems to be a tutorial. Indeed something Google might do. I'll try uninstalling it.
