I recently purchased a 2Terabyte MYBOOK Elite. However, it came in NTFS format with smartwave technology on it. I tried format the hard drive to Fat32 because I want to be able to plug it into my PS3 to play my 950DVDs off of it that I am planning on putting on in AVI. I was wondering how I can format this 2TB Hard drive to Fat 32?

You can format a partition 32GB using FAT32 but the rest of the disk won't be used by the PS3 as you are limited to that size. 2TB drives require NTFS-GPT to fully format the HDD so you are screwed when using a FAT32 system with the new large drives.

There are extended FAT32 formats but the OS has to support the larger format or be patched to handle it. Linux is a good example of this capability as it can be easily patched for larger disk formats, LHA48... At any rate I haven't heard of FAT32 being extended to 2TB although that may exist.

just plug it into your computer and you find it in control panel/ computer management/disk management format it.

The only thing with fat32 is that any files larger than 4gb are split up. Example if you have a AVI file that is 5gb, it will be split into 2 files.

Once again you won't be able to format the whole drive which will make it a waste to use with your PS3. There is a reason your drive was formated NTFS-GPT. So again if you format it FAT32 you'll see that limit when using Disk Manager in Windows whatever.

If you try to create or copy a AVI file, or whatever file type, you will not be able to do so if it is larger than 4GB in size and NO the file will not be split automatically for you. You will need to split large files manually with 3rd party software, no smoke and mirrors there.

This may help you out if you want to make multple partitions on your 2TB drive and use it that way.

Thanks for the input. I finally figured it out and got it to work. I was able to convert my NTFS 2TB Mybook elite with smartwave software preinstalled into a 2TB Fat32HD. I honestly thought I was screwed cause I couldnt convert hardly anything on WindowsXP... also the hard drive itself would only give me setting to format it as a Fat32. I found a program called like fat32formatter.. most simplistic and amazing program I ever used and it seriously took no longer than 2 mins.. I was amazed but my PS3 has recognized the drive now which it wouldnt before as it does not find NTFS and it is showing the full 2TB with my stuff on it. So happy! thanks guys.
