I downloaded WinRar onto my computer to try and download and play a version of Close Combat that I bought off of Matrixgames.com. First off, I really don't know exactly what I am doing, so I'm already a leg down. But I bought the game, clicked on the link to download, (took 2 hours), and when I went on to try and play it it said I needed to insert the Close Combat CD. I don't know if I am using WinRar right, or even if I am downloading what I need to be downloading or not. Can somebody please help me or walk me through what I'm doing so I don't screw something up too bad? Thanks!!!
I would highly suggest the Matrix Games forum/community. There may be someone at AD with specific knowledge that can help, but Matrix Games forums are specifically for issues such as the one that you are encountering.
Plus, since you are a customer, you should be entitled to some kind of free support from them.
Since I do not know what format their Digital Download uses, I can't even tell you if WinRAR is the right program to use to de-archive it (provided that it even needs de-archiving).
1. Try support at matrix games.
2. Failing that, what is the file extension (.<something>) for the Game you downloaded?
If you Payed for that download then you should not require a cd.
Here is what i suggest, have a look through the root folder to see if there is a readme, maybe this will explain how you get around the needing a cd. i.e No CD patch.
But to be honest if they don't supply you with what you need to play the game and you have paid then you have been scammed/ ripped off however you look at it, it isn't right.
good luck, hopefully you either get the game or your money back.
on a personal note i would say that if your going to purchase games online buy from well know sites such as Ebay and the likes and make sure they are cd/dvds.
