Sorry if i have posted this in the wrong place but i was wondering if anyone could tell me which is the best web browser to use with windows xp sp3? I have been using internet explorer but have had a lot of problems with 7 and 8, pages are slow to load up, when i type in the search bar some of the letters get missed out and when i try to delete my cookies and temp internet files it does not delete them etc so i have now gone back to internet explorer 6 which is the only one that i did not have these issues with. I have found out however that some sites i use are going to be phasing out this version so i will no longer be able to use it so will have to try a different web browser. I have been reading up on them and found a lot of sites saying google chrome has spyware so i do not want to use that but wondered if anyone can tell me how good and safe firefox is? I have only ever used internet explorer so don't know much about any other one so if anyone can recommend a good one i would be grateful, thanks.

Use firefox 3.5. That's all I use. you can customize it with free addons and themes. It works excellent with windows xp and has better security than internet explorer. I havent found any sites that don't work with this browser, firefox is also updated regularly.
I also used to use internet explorer but was always having to buy popup blockers/antispyware software etc to keep it from getting infected. When I switch to firefox all my malware problems went away.

My computer windows xp pro sp3
1. zone alarm firewall
2. avg 8.5 free antivirus
3. firefox 3.5 browser
4. returnil free virtual protection system.

No virus/spyware has defeated my simple security setup.

I tried chrome and opera, but didn't find them to be better than firefox. I also didn't notice any speed difference between them.

some addon extensions I recommend
1. image toolbar
2. navigational sounds
3. all in one gestures
4. download statusbar
5. paste and go

Also try some of the different themes
1. noia 2.0

Find a site with reviews on browser performance then choose 1 or more & then get to know how to mske them perform.

Loading of pages well that could be anything from your internet connection & having more than 1 comp on at a time, to the website code to what hidden process you have running in the back ground on your pc like antivirus or even an auto update feature on any software you have installed etc.

IE 7 on all three of my comps runs fast the only browser to beat it would be opera with turbo function enabled, firefox runs just as quick as IE7,there's too many variables as to why IE7 has issues on your comp,as for cookies checking settings to delete all instead of keep "last two weeks" might help out there, like i said get to know what it is your using will make em perform the way you want, cnet & tech republic are good sources to learn from apat from pcworld, pcmechanic etc

Thanks very much for the advice. I will try firefox and see how i get on with that. I use windows firewall and bitdefender antivirus plus a couple of antispyware programs so as long as none of those cause a problem with it hopefully i'll have better luck than with internet explorer. Thanks again.

I have now installed firefox 3.5.1 but i cannot see an option to delete temporary internet files. I can see the option on tools to show cookies so i can delete them but don't see anything about temp internet files. The only way i can delete these is by going into properties on internet explorer and deleting them like i did before but it would be much easier if i could delete everything using firefox. If anyone can help i would be grateful thanks.

Just go into Edit/Preferences and check the various Tabs (i'm using an old version 2.x of Firefox on my linux laptops at the moment, haven't got a Firefox 3.5.2 machine switched on at the mo to check the Tabs).

For windows xp, my vote goes to firefox 3.5 for sure. Great addons and in my experience it does seem to run faster than ie or chrome.

@pbjelly12
Let's remove the advert from your sig ASAP.

My vote too goes to Firefox and to ccleaner.
Using ccleaner LauraAnne does a much better job cleaning up the temporary internet files that any browser setting imho.
