Usually if i come accross a problem i'm able to come to this site and get the answer straight away, but this time i'm stuck.
I'm trying to set up Remote Desktop so that i can link to my laptop at home from my Sony Ericsson Xperia. Problem is the laptop is connected wirelessly to an o2 wireless box II. I have got it down to the wireless connection as the problem as it works 100% when i plug in an ethernet cable and change the port forwarding to use the cable. But when i change all back again, it won't work, and on my desktop PC all i get is a black screen. i get the same problem whether or not i try to use the local ip address/computer name, or use the external IP address. It's also worth pointing out that i can connect to the desktop PC locally from the laptop without any problems.
Is there any way that i can get this to work? or will i just have to set it up that i have the ethernet cable plugged in all the time.
Since you stated that it worked fine when you used the Ethernet port, did you check to see if your wireless card still has remote desktop blocked at the firewall? Since you have multiple network cards, you need to open up the firewall for remote desktop on both interfaces.
yeah, i checked that....i had briefly switched off the firewall to try find out where the problem was, but still wouldn't work. However, since i posted the above, i had decided to try out windows 7.....which worked 1st time with no issues.
In case you'd get blocked again, I had the same problems when I tried to support someone remotely and both of us were behind a home router. Although I understand port forwarding, stupid routers wouldn't keep the forwarding rules after power off.
