Software for Hi-Def+FLAC Video Playback?

I've got a notebook with T7200 Dual-Core processor at 2Ghz and 2GB ram. I have my Blu-Ray rips stored on my desktop. Both are using 1000mbit network cards through 1000mbit router. Most videos I can play on my notebook fine. However Blu-Rays in which I encoded the PCM track to FLAC, I get stuttering. I don't get the stuttering on the desktop, and 1000mbit is plenty bandwidth, so the bottleneck is either my CPU, or the codec. Is there other software or some VLC settings I might try to improve playback? I also get the issue with AC3 audio, so I guess it isn't just with FLAC.
