You could i spose others do it for malware issues not sure if i'll be of any use however there is a portable version that requires no install & it will do the same job or there's subtitle workshop

Thanks for your reply. I downloaded the portable one as advised but there is still an .exe file to open. And then it fails to open.
Re the Subtitle Workshop I have it too but it is refusing to load some videos although not all. That is why I tried to have this one instead.
There must be a conflict with another software possibly k-lite as it's known to caue SE to crash,only other thing it could be is windows itself perhaps a driver or an update,unless a security ware has locked it check it's black list,short of reformatting all you can do is find a different app

Thanks. That what I do. Scrap it and find a new one from the list you suggested. It is quite long!! Can you suggest any prog cos I haven't anything to go by except the stars after each.
I'd go with subtitle processor can't go too wrong with open source,just check makers website for a non install version,no point adding more junk if you don't have too
