Windows 7 Media Centre Problem

Hi all.

I've just installed windows 7 on my pc (fresh install not an upgrade) but I can't get windows media centre to work. When I click on the icon it opens a new window and I hear some music but the window stays black. I then have to go into task manager to end the program. If I select a video file to play by right clicking on it and selecting play, it opens a new window and I get the first frame and then it freezes but the sound continues to play. Whats going on?
