I was playing a game a week or so ago and I experienced what I believe to be a graphic card overheat: the game quit to a horrible looking false colour desktop and then losing the signal to the monitor entirely forcing me to do a 10 second shutdown, not much choice really. When I booted back up, a couple of applications were behaving erratically, for example comodo firewall was now using 75 percent of my Q6600 CPU and that was causing firefox to freeze up.

A fresh install of comodo solved that problem and everything was back to normal but windows media is still problematic and eating up runtime. I tried a rollback but to no effect so I'm wondering what the solution could be. I checked for bad sectors on the C disk but found nothing. The excessive usage doesn't happen right away, you could play maybe one song but the speed of the app will always slow down to crawl eventually. Is there anyway I could remove WMP entirely and do a fresh install? More importantly would that do any good? My rig is Win XP SP3, Q6600 2.4, 4GB DDR2, 9800GTX, 1TB Sata hard drive.
