I realize everyone ever asking a question about an fps drop almost always has the same story, so I'm sorry this is one more post about bad fps in a game. This, however, I really can't explain, myself.

I installed Windows 7 SPECIFICALLY to play Just Cause 2. I way top out the minimum specs, and I don't even play it tops, so it isn't a spec issue by far. It goes like this; I got Just Cause 2, was really excited to play. Installed everything, played it fine for I think it's almost been a week now, so like 4-6 days straight. I haven't added almost ANYTHING to this install of Windows but basic protection, Firefox, and,,,, actually that's it. When I first booted up the game and the few days after it, it ran perfectly (fps wise, at least a VERY STEADY 40, which is way playable imo) in that time (Big City included, not even a flinch in FRAPS). Recently, however, after playing for sometimes as little as 20 min, at longest 40, my fps drops very very significantly. Game runs VERY slow, but it isn't intermittent like just plain lag; it simply cuts my fps in half. I've checked heat on my video card and cpu, both mildly hot (as to be expected with a game like this), but not so much as to do that, plus if it were heat, I would imagine that it would've been like this from the start, not starting a week into playing the game. I've got newest drivers for my card, mobo, and everything else. Hell, I even tried getting nHancer (which I found out doesn't work with the newest nVid drivers). I've tried lowering everything to as far down as it can go, and the fps doesn't change at all (or very barely, hard to tell). I've shut VSync on and off, everything I can think of. Nothing changes it but a fresh restart, after which I can play for a bit, then it does it again. It's very very frustrating. I noticed that turning VSync off may have postponed it a bit, but didn't solve it, and that's a maybe.

specs really aren't an issue, and I'm barely playing it at medium settings because I like the framerate steadier than having everything look a little better.

CPU: i5 or i7 extreme, pseudo-quad x64 (can't remember specifically and I'm writing this from my cell)
MOBO: iSLI nVidia chipset
RAM: 6gb (three sets of 2 channel)
GPU: GTX 260 (slightly OC'd, but taking it down didn't help it)

Any constructive input is welcome and much appreciated. Please, if anyone has any thoughts, tell me. I'm addicted to this game now. :/

Cyrus

[Update: After rolling back my drivers and UNDER-clocking my video card, it seems to have reduced, but not abated the problem. Now, the FPS drops by a quarter instead of %50. Still would like some input, as restarting every half hour or so is just annoying.]

Do you own the game in other words its not a Scene release? if you do own the game did you patch it. I've reverted to the old launch EXE V1.01 and it works great i noticed the same issue on the latest patch.

if you don't own the game trying finding another crack, or get the steam release version. and no i don't condone piracy i just cant be bothered digging though a crate to find the disc. support developers that make great games if you like it. buy it.

I do, but I hate Steam, so after buying, I try to find a cracked version. I know that sounds like a convenient story, but I really don't care. I have 5 games (TF2, Just Cause 2, HL2, and Portal, to name a few) that are "mint" in box, because I hate Steam, and won't install it on my computer. Heh, even having them "Mint-in-Box" doesn't mean anything anymore considering most games you can't even play if they use Steam without "downloading" it anyway. Sorry, that's a sore spot. I don't know, I'll look for another exe or something I guess as well. I found that underclocking it only temporarily solved it, because its back at it again. UGGH.

hmmm...ok first i gotta disagree about steam but i move alot so keeping track of the discs is 2 big a pain for me. also the 260 is barely above minimum requirements:

Just Cause 2
System Requirements*
Intel Processor - Core 2 Duo T7800 2.6GHz
AMD Processor - Phenom 8400 Triple-Core
Nvidia Graphics Card - GeForce GTS 250
ATI Graphics Card - Radeon HD 5750 512MB
RAM Memory - 3 GB
Hard Disk Space - 10 GB
Direct X - 9

the 260 is literally just scraping by as far as requirements go, and would be my first guess as to the problem you're experiencing. if u can't afford to replace it turn off the physX for it as physX is a beast to run on those cards, in fact in most modern gaming builds the suggested card to have dedicated to running the physX is the 260 so having it do both can slow down your performance alot. hope that helps.
