Why do all video game cracks(and numerous other software) come up as "false positives"

I want to deter my friend from pirating games, and one of my arguments was viruses. He claims that a majority of cracks released by major organization/group (infamous RELOADED) are indeed legit and are simply false positives. Why do they come up as viruses if they are really legit? Is his argument accurate?

well if the game cracks modify the software without the users permission they could show up as a virus.alot of keygenerators and cracks show up as a virus but its normal.some of the cracks are legit.

so there is still a big risk, and the chances that at least one of the games he downloads could have viruses? have the major players in the crack game ever released an actual virus?

At least he stays a way from keygens...i had an experience with them first hand b4 i fully understood the risks involved..=S

anything you download could contain a virus.the major players in the game cracks industry don't usually release a virus otherwise they lose their reputation.if your getting something for free that normally cost money its always a risk(eg:legality,virus's,spyware).

they are all most likly false positives, intrusive DRM is also detected by virus scanners as being a generic Win32@trojan. most crack are in fact intrusive that's why almost all virus scanners will pic them up. they are only intrusive to there application however.

DRM secured games in modern gaming are written to memory blocks @random. what the crack does is it writes to these blocks before the real DRM can. in essence it spoofs these blocks. its real but its not real. much like Trojan acts.

so yes they are in fact trojans, that are desinged to invade the games DRM binary's and modify them on the fly. a real Trojan is much worse.

a real trojan for instance would get picked up by a virus scanners Real time scanners, Note your game crack doesn't it will only be detected by heuristics enabled and a full system user initialized scan.
