I have been a Bell Sympatico user for about 11 years I pay 59.99 a month no cap on an older plan. Here?s the problem I have, I have been paying a modem fee for a long time they said I pay 3.99 a month for since 2001 (because I changed it back a while ago but still no cap), so I've paid about $430.xx give or take and the thing is I haven't been using their modem and when I told them that around 2002 they said I will still be charged even if I use my own modem! Will I have paid bell years for a modem I used the first year or so then they became extremely common you can get them for 40.00 new or less used yet they are less. They charging not just me but other sympatico.ca far beyond the cost or worth in services we received they just send you a new 40.00 modem that does not justify the 430.00 for using your own modem and you can't demand this fee stopped. If anyone has any info please share because to me this is the types of scam Bell try?s to get away with like the system access fee scam. I think this could be a class action lawsuit against bell?

I've had this plan since 2001, I don't remember the details but I was told in 2002 when I called them about the modem and asked for it to be taken off so I can save money because I been using my own modem, I was told I would have to pay the modem fees even if I am using my own modem. I can use any modem with Bell Sympatico services without any problems to the service what so ever, we should not be forced to use Bell's modems so they can make $430.00 from a 30.00 modem and keep getting charging for it. If there?s a problem they send a new $30.00 they sent me a new modem because they noticed I had a very old one on my account (Acatel). So in all this time 8 to 11 years I got 2 modems in total and I only used Bells Acatel modem for 1 year in the being and it kills me that I'm paying $526.00 and still paying $3.99 a month and I know that I'm not the only one paying this modem fee. Bell's modems are not need to use their services so why do they force us to keep paying them if you use it or not.....sorry if I'm repeating myself it just gets me so angry.

Unfortunately, the BBB can't do much to help you in a matter like this. Your ISP is a monopoly. This means they can charge whatever they want for whatever they want, and all you can do about it is either pay the bill or disconnect the service...and they know you won't disconnect because they are the only game in town.

My local cable company charges $5 a month to "rent" their crummy modem. If I want to upgrade my service to their fastest level, they will charge me to have a tech come out, install a modem, and setup wifi networking for me. The modem they use for this service is the same model that they use for the service I have, and I already have wifi networking that is far better than what they offer. None the less, they want to charge me the setup fee, even though they don't have to send a tech to do the "install". What is worse? Well, they keep running TV ads that claim that they never charge a service fee for any installation or upgrade.

my provider said for $9.90 a month to hire a modem or $106 for a basic one,$169 for a basic wireless.went out and brought my own wireless and a wireless network card for $104 and im using that.

if your paying a fee to hire it then you can probably tell them you no longer need it and they should send someone to pick it up and stop charging you a fee.depends on what plan your on and the terms and condition.they might have a clever loophole.

custom built gaming pc from early 2010,ps2 with 15 games all original,ps3 500gbs with 5 games all original, yamaha amp and 5.1channel surround sound speakers,46inch sony lcd smart tv.

They just say its part of my plan and that no matter what modem I use i'll still get charged $3.99each month. my plan is an older one with no cap at all.
