I haven't been quite as active as I originally was but its nice to see that the friendly "faces" I came to know and respect here on AD are still going. rav009, zippyd whom I could've sworn was named zippydsm?, the mods, and really just about all the other Senior Members and AD Addicts in this thread.

I guess its about time the ol' bald bastard showed up. A mighty high-five to all!
In a nutshell, I've been doing great. I guess the inevitable limits of time have dictated that my wife, my Jeep and my guns get the lion's share anymore. Take heart that even though I don't pop in as often as I'd like when I think of all of you and AD in general I get a nice smile on my face. I still wear my AD shirt regularly and use my AD pen with pride. I also need to get some sort of connection to those amazing Finnish chocolates I got for Christmas the other year. I've had all types of imported chocolates but the Finns have everyone else whipped as far as Neph is concerned. Snipers, vodka and chocolates the Finns do oh-so-well.
In the last half hour looking at everyone's PC specs I've been shaking my head realizing what dinosaurs my computers have become. As I commented in another thread my "fastest" is the one my wife uses which is a Shuttle decked with an Athlon X2 6000+. My HTPC is running an Athlon X2 4200+ and the one I'm typing on is an old one I built for my wonderful sister a few years ago - its a little AOpen XCube with a rip snorting Celeron 2.26 I networked into my shop to look up parts, diagrams and whatnot for the multitude of cars I seem to be fixing lately. Having my many gigs of music on tap isn't bad either :) The Celeron has worked out well considering how friggin hot it gets in the shop in the summer. My how monetary priorities can change!
The bulk of my discretionary (and sometimes not so discretionary) income has been funneled to my beloved 2000 Jeep Wrangler. I recently saw an acronym that fits the die-hard Jeeper to a "T" - Just Empty Every Pocket. Skid Row engine/tranny skid plate, a roof rack, auxiliary lighting, a winch, Metal Cloak fender flares, on-board air, dual batteries, 1,000 watt inverter, Super 35 rear axles with Detroit locker, Dana 30 Aussie Locker up front with alloy axles, Mk 19 grenade launcher.......you all get the idea.
And to my lovely wife. She's been an amazingly positive thing in my life. We're fast approaching two years together and its as good as its ever been if not better. We don't do the bars or clubs or any of that crap. We love staying at home cuddled up watching whatever sports, John Wayne movie or low-budget flick is on Sci-Fi channel. She even puts up with my love for Military and Science Channel. Hell, she's even enjoying our first World Cup together. She's from Chicago so I'm mindful to always cheer for the Bears, the Blackhawks and the Bulls. I wish you all could meet her because she's a gem and she's honestly made me the happiest and most stable I've ever been. I told her I was out in the shop catching up with all my buddies from AD and all she had was a big grin :) I should also mention that I love quality tattoos and she has two full sleeves of amazing oriental artwork including the Okinawan Buddhist shrine to WWII (she spent seven years in Okinawa, hence the love of oriental artwork). She also drives a Dodge SRT-4 turbo-charged hotrod which is a nice contrast to my slow creepy crawly Wrangler. All in all we mesh similarities and contrasts extremely well. She's taught me to appreciate new things and I've done the same for her.
No promises but I'll try and get some recent photos up on my personal page.
Knuckles to all and go USA in the World Cup!!!!!

Anyone have a good recommendation for a headset/mic that runs under Win 7 for Skype? My trusty Plantronics set that I shelled out bucks for had drivers quit at XP.

Honestly if its just for Skype and you won't be using it for gaming or anything else that requires it to be worn for an hour or so on end. I would say just buy a midrange pair at Walmart. I'm sure you will be able to find something to fit your needs for under $20.
And since you mentioned Chicago (my hometown) I have to say GO HAWKS! The parade they had was insane!

Don't feel bad. I just dumped my single core athlon last year. Due to lack of funds, I was only able to upgrade to a dual core athlon 7550.

I keep dreaming of the day when I'll be able to sink some funds into an offroad vehicle. But with no garage or other place to work on one, it's a bit unrealistic at the moment. With a jeep, I'd think I'd go with the rubicon dana 44 axles from a jk. Heaps stronger than dana 30/35, except the axle tubes are a bit thin and need some trussing to make them wheel worthy. I spend most of my time browing pirate4x4 and drooling these days.

So glad to hear that things are well in your life. You truly deserve it...

Its incredibly good to hear from all of you and I'm elated you are all doing well.
The interesting thing about the XCube/Celeron PC is that it runs W7 just fine. Figuring it'd be a dog with W7 I originally installed several flavors of Linux but I had neither the or more importantly the patience to get it networked with my other two W7 machines and NAS. I'm sure its a rather simple affair but I wanted the shop PC networked and running with as little fuss as possible so I figured what the hell, I'll try W7 on it. It's peppy enough to stream my music and look up parts diagrams so a happy Neph I am.
zippyd,
That's awesome you cruise pirate4x4. I lurk there quite often.
I'd have loved to have picked something up with 44's but it just didn't work out that way. Jeeps hold their value like crazy and I was happy just to get a 2000 in great shape with low miles within my budget. The 2000 was the sweet spot for me having the NP231 transfer case and NV 3550 tranny - both are strong and reliable. Mine's my daily driver so I can't go too crazy with some of the mods. With the 4.0l only getting 16mpg I'll be keeping the 31x10.50's and 3.73 gears for the foreseeable future and with that size tires the Super 35 should do me well. When the day comes you get your dream Jeep you'll always have a place to stay and some of the best trails to be had here in Arizona. Me and the little lady are planning to visit the infamous OK Corral on the way to Bisbee where we're going to stay a few nights at arguably the coolest motel on Earth - Shady Dell. There are some great trails in the area we plan to run while we're down there. Bisbee is an old mining town famous for its ghosts and various hauntings so we're going to make reservations for an outfit that gives ghost tours at night in a badass converted hearse. How sweet!

Bisbee is a neat little place. Didn't spend a whole lot of time there, as we were more interested in what was across the border(which didn't amount to much). We had fun wheelin the power line maintenance roads when I was stationed at Huachucca(Sierra Vista).
You need to get a little rice burner for a daily driver and just go ahead and get the jeep the way you really want it. It'll save you some cash in the long run. Or just go ahead and get a tow rig for the jeep. If you follow along on some of the build threads on pirate it starts off as a mild build which never ends up good enough and finishes up as an extreme overhaul. And I cringe every time because of all the dough dumped into the initial build and then into each additional rebuild as it approaches "ultimate".
