Can you burn PS1/PSX games to DVD-R?

I just got my PS2 modded. I have a bunch of Verbatim DVD-Rs, and they work just fine with PS2 games. However, when I try to burn a PS1 game to a DVD, it cannot be read. Is there any way around this or do I have to get CD-Rs to run PS1 games? I think it may be because PS1 games did not use DVDs, but I'm not sure.

Tsk! It's not working probably because you havn't done the disk swap or you haven't modded a modchip to your psx. If you have done those things, i'm out of ideas. :P
