Hey guys,
My friend won a DS lite from a "stacker" game at an amusement park. The power switch stopped working, so he told me I can have it if I fix it.
The problem:
The device does not react to the power switch at all.
When plugged into a charger, the light turns orange, then green when it is done charging.
When I shake it, I can hear a piece rattling around inside.
The switch slides up and still springs down, so it isn't the switch itself, is it?
Does this sound familiar to any of you guys?
I ordered the Y screwdriver, so I will open the DS up when it arrives, can I use anything else to open it up in the meantime(Exacto knife blade etc.) or it is best to just wait.

I was in a similar situation whoever my power switch didn't spring down.

My power switch "leg" (I guess I'll it that) snap off. So I unsolder the old power switch and solder on a new one. Use epoxy to keep it down.
Though your switch still springs down so yours shouldn't be broken. But who knows? It could be related. Take some pics of the DS lite insides and around the power switch and post up this pics.
P.S. Maybe the solder points on the power switch is broken? Easy fix.

Sounds to me like the L2 inductor snapped off (I think that's what it's called anyway, I'm at work so I can't verify that right now.) It's value is 0 so you can just bridge it with solder. It's located just below the power switch (I attached a pic to show you.)
I've had this happen on 3 or 4 DS' I've fixed. Bridged them with solder and they work like new. You'll need a triwing screwdriver to open the case, and obviously a soldering iron and some soldering skill. If you've never soldered before make sure you practice on something! And look up a good guide to taking apart the case.
If you have any other questions just ask... good luck!

Thanks for the information, The Y screwdriver is in the mail, but I had it sent to my college, which means I won't be able to pick it up until after Thanksgiving...
I will post a picture of it before messing with anything... I tried to make a "Pandora's battery" for my room mate, but ended up pulling up the wrong pin... Fun times.

Wait. If the value is 0, why is it there in the first place?

ih4553,
You were spot on!
Thanks to you, I now have a fully functioning DS! (Once I replace a cracked top screen, that is.)

Thank you for the video, very helpful, as I need to replace a cracked top screen now.
I bought myself a pandoras battery already, I figured that if something can spark angrily at me, and I don't have a way to unplug it, it isn't worth risking an explosion and my fingers.
