DSi reports error when trying to access AceKard 2i card

PLEASE HELP,
I am completely out of my death here as I am very new to all this so any help will be very gratefully received.
I have just got a DSi for the wife's Christmas present.
I have downloaded the firmware V4.18 from AceKard site. Coped the akmen4.nds & -ak2 file onto the micro sd card supplied with acekard2i.
Once I have put the acekard 2i into the DSi the console registers the acekards presence (The acekard icon shows on the DSi menu); but if I click on it all that happens is the DSi tells me that an error has occurred, switch power off and refer to manual.
The DSi's software is Ver 1.4E
I have been reading through the help forums trying to sort this out on my own but all I'm doing is going around in circles and getting more confused by the minute.
Can anyone tell me what to do, preferably in a clear step by step procedure.
