Screen doesn't display sprites properly?

Has anyone encountered this problem before? When I load up a game on my m3, parts of the screen won't load. For example, the house in Pokemon Platinum is completely black, and the half the starting screen for taiko no tatsujin just shows the background. I just got my DS lite off Ebay, its a refurbished one.
