Simple question.. which one is the best, and why? I have heard of r4i, ez-flash, and others.. I'm not necessarily interested in GBA emulation because I have heard it's very finicky at this point, but my main interests lie in NES, SNES, and Sega Genesis emulation.

So.. what's the best?

Whichever one you have and is working!

Everyone has their own opinion based on their experience, having used 2 x DSi cards, I prefer the M3iZero, however the Acekard 2i was very good too, its personal preference. As most people only use one or two then no one can give an overall unbiased opinion

Avoid anything with R4 in the title

The dsi does not have the GBA slot anyway like the dsl did. So emulation of GBA on a dsi is not possible. The last I knew anyway.

Actually, it is.

If I order an acekard 2i, will I immediately be able to use it in my 1.4 DSi, or will I have to upgrade the firmware of the acecard first?

IMHO, You should ALWAYS upgrade the firmware of any flashcart prior to using it.
