I see on the imgburn tut, that you should have 2 files, one audio_VS and one video_VS - but on the torrents, all you get is one file, an avi ?

Am I reading this right, or have I got something wrong somewhere please ?

Any help appreciated.

You have to encode (convert, uncompress) the avi to DVD compliant files first unless you just burn it as data. Avi is just a container to put the compressed video in. This conversion can result in a VIDEO_TS folder and AUDIO_TS folder which ImgBurn burns to DVD. The AUDIO_TS folder is always empty and, as I understand, ImgBurn creates one if it is absent.

To make the DVD compilation(the Video_TS folder), you can use DVD Flick , it is free and does a good job.
