Can't connect to games servers or Azureus

For years, I've had no problems downloading from Azureus or playing games online but a fortnight ago I downloaded IE8 and from that momnet I was no longer able to connect to the servers. I can browse the net no problem but can no longer download any updates etc.
I have a BT Home hub 2.0 and have used the manager to enable UPnP, forwarded ports and disabled firewalls. It's been 3 weeks now and I'm at my wits end. I'm running XP home edition. Can somebody please please rescue me ?

Have you removed IE8, if not, try that? Start>control panel>add and remove, you might have to check show update's. Reboot after removal.
