family abroad want to try out direct connect for a private hub to talk or share photos etc (dc++). i have used it before, but am having problems. no version of dc++ works for me. i have tried standard dc++, strongdc, and apexdc. sometimes dc++ will connect ok, and i can get a fast connection to the hub, with up to 400kbps connection speeds from a user. other times (9 out of 10), i see my name with "shared=0" at the top, and nothing else, no other users. even when every other user does show up, i cant even download a file list. i get 80 to 90 b/s. bytes, not kb. it struggles to connect to a hub and list users.
the change in being able to finally connect to a hub and download at a fast rate, can occur even if i havent reconnected to the web or made any changes on my pc. even if i switch my firewall and net related programs completely off, hubs can still struggle to show me a user list- then a few hrs later.. its working 100% again for a few minutes. its very annoying.
At the moment i use avira antivirus, spywareblaster, and online armor firewall. I switch them all off and reload dc++, no change, so it doesnt seem to be a related issue, although that may not end up being true. I have broadband and am connecting straight from a landline, so its a direct connection. I should not need to change any settings within dc++ as it has worked 100% in the past with the same programs i have installed, using the exact same settings. Adding the correct ports to use within my firewall, or trying a switch from active to passive in dc++ as a test, make no difference.
