hi all i am studying in a uni and they have proxy settings set up for their internet. so naturally i cannot use uttorent to download torrents. I tried to go to mininova to download torrents but nothing happens down speed remains 0.0kbps but as soon as i come home it starts. Please if you guys have anyway of downloading torrents via proxy i would be thankful to you guys. (this problem would be common in public places which have free wifi).

universities will block all p2p traffic.. it's as simple as that.. because it's their internet not yours. I guess only a very few ports are open to the outside.. and any and all unusual traffic will be monitored. Look at their TOS for your connection.. see where it says filesharing and illegal downloads will result in action? .. Don't call their bluff.. they will throw you out or even report you to the relevant authorities.. If it's not your connection (it isn't it''s theirs) then you have to stay within what's allowed.. and torrents/newsgroups/places like javdownloads are off the menu. You will have a bandwidth allocation for study/entertainment purposes.. probably a few 100's of mb's a day. Step over that and you will be called in to account for your high usage.. and believe... they will have logs of everything.

Sorry bout that.. I was a sys-admin at a college so I know how well the networks are administered. They all had to sign an agreement with the copyright people to make them liable in the first instance for any infringing behaviour by their users.. so they do take it very seriously. If you were to run a portscan you will probably find ports 80 and maybe 21 (and perhaps 3xx for internal email services) are open.. the rest will be locked down solid. You could always try running something like nmap.. but they will be aware of you running a portscan against them from inside.. even stealthed the local network node will see and log the spoofed packets.. alarms will ring.. but you can just say you were interested in how the network is set up.. purely being nosey.. You won't be able to set up port forwarding through their routers in any case.. so it's rather pointless trying.

i take it the OP is at a uni outside of the US? since the two colleges that i've attended, and the one my brother attends doesnt block P2P traffic at all. and my first college didnt care if you downloaded at all. they would simply forward the mass emailings that the music mafia would send out and say 'hey, we got this from the music mafia dicks, dont worry about it though'

Come talk with us on efnet at #elitemods !!! or just click ME

ALSO, DO NOT SEND ME MESSAGES ON LIVE REGARDING MODDING CONSOLES, OR HOW I PLAYED A CERTAIN GAME EARLY. I WILL NOT RESPOND. I WILL INSTEAD DELETE YOUR MESSAGE, AND BLOCK ALL COMMUNICATION FROM YOU. JUST SEND ME A PM ON HERE.

No point.. makes no difference where they are posting from.. If it's on a proxy in house host there will be no way to forward ports... Users don't have admin rights on nodes or main routers.
