how to speed up BitTorrent 7.2.1?

Is there a way to speed up my BitTorrent 7.2.1?
On my old computer, it seemed to go faster, but with this new computer and Windows 7, it seems to be creeping along.
The computer is:
HP Pavilion p6774y PC
Windows 7
Router is Cisco (Linksys)Model #WRT54G2 V1.5
I have AVG Internet Security 2011 anti-virus program ( I have have tried both the Windows 7 firewall and the AVG firewall) It doesn't seem to make a difference which firewall I use.
Can anyone tell me what I can do to open port 43757 in AVG firewall? or
Can anyone tell me how to make my BitTorrent download faster.?
I have fast internet, shouldn't my downloads be fast?
Help,Please!
