To answer your question Hotfile will have your IP linked to the download so take that as you may. And the free downloads aren't any "safer" than the pay to downloads. On the other hand if your willing to spend $3 for a possibly virus compromised .iso file why not just save up the extra $27 and buy a legitimate copy?

For $30 you can get a Windows 7 Home Premium. Of course you need a .edu email address from a college or what not. If you don't have one maybe you know someone in college who could do this for you? If you don't I have a .edu email address and I could do this for you. The download comes as a installer to do a upgrade but there are guides detailing how to extract the installer files and modify them to allow a fresh install. And then of course you can take those files and burn them to a .ISO.

Think of it this way, you don't have to worry so much about getting caught by HotFile but getting caught by Microsoft. And sure they probably won't sue you but they will deactive your copy of Windows. But of course you think I'll just use one of the hacks/activators to bypass Authentication. So now your risking your entire fresh OS install to a coder you've never met who may or may not have bypassed Windows authentication and who may or may not have also just installed a backdoor/rootkit/trojan onto your machine.

Update: Here is a link to the Home Premium upgrade image directly from Microsoft. Do yourself a favor by avoiding viruses/getting your copy invalidated get the $30 license code. Heres a guide on how to convert the linked Ugprade only .ISO to a Full Install .ISO.

You can also get Windows 7 Professional for $30 with a .edu email address.

And here are 3-4 ways to do a clean install with a Win. 7 Upgrade disc without having to have a operating already installed.
