Hey guys,

I've sorta looked around in the past threads looking for an answer to my question, haven't really found it. SO other than Torrents, is there any new protocols out there? I know theres limewire and all that "joke-ware", but im looking for something thats equal or superior to torrents.

thanks in advance.

Well there is newgroups. It has superior speed, and privacy at a cost. The good stuff is is not for free and I find the selection limited vs torrents.

You are right there but that is the technology that is gaining popularity. If is is not popular to find things you want it isn't worth much.

There were and probably still are several 'dark nets' but they never caught on because 1 they were either never as secure as they were supposed to be or were too compartmentalized both types never had much population. The open dark nets were hit hard early on. People found out just how secure they were in Japan when P2P became illegal there. Large numbers of users thinking they were invincible were nailed to the wall. I doubt that anyone remembering what happened there were ever trust an open dark net. Closed or compartmentalized dark nets may be secure possibly mostly because they are too constrained to be a threat. They are like a private limewire. You need to know the person(s) so you may as well swap disks unless the swaps are small. You can only get 50/100 kb out of the ones I have seen. They still go against your ISP download quota.

The largest band width is even older than newsgroups, swap old HDs with persons in the same country.

One other technology is sending data through the IM channels. I think that is worse than the compartmentalized dark nets.
