You're probably missing the proper codec's, K-Lite codec pack should be all you need (full): http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/mirror.htm The pack contain's various tool's you can opt out of during the install. Uninstall any previous codec's you installed as they can conflict. If you wish individual codec's, koepi's XVID 1.2.2 will play about 90%-95% of your file's. Another option is the VLC Player, it has it's own codec's.

As Mistycat's response indicates, you are likely missing the proper video codec for those downloads.

Since Mistycat can not know which video codec(s) your downloads require (or if they require more than one), he has given you two choices to download.

1. Download VLC as it has codecs for most all videos contained within it.
2. Download a codec pack (K-Lite or others)

Some people advise against using a codec pack (although I use K-Lite without any issues) so downloading VLC is probably a safer choice.

Most videos for download are encoded in XviD or DivX as these can be played in DivX compatible DVD players without conversion. However, without knowing the codec(s) for your downloads, it is impossible to suggest a specific codec download to solve your issue.
