NTL broadband speed problem

Hi!
I have 10 mbit/s broadband from NTL dublin.Speed was very good first 2 month, always getting around 10 mbit/s. Last few weeks I am only getting 1 mbit/s - 2 mbit/s. Ntl customer service is crap, promissing to call back, they dont reply to emails.
Anyone have any idea what could be the problem?
It is cisco router, connected by cable to pc, wireless turned off,good cable.

Cable or DSL? (I'm from the US so I'm not familiar with the service provider)

If it's cable, keep in mind that cable is a "shared medium" and your available bandwith is also a funtion of the number of subscribers on the "loop". If you are on at a time when "everyone" on your loop is accessing the internet, it's possible that the total bandwidth has been overbooked.

With DSL your bandwidth to the DSLAM is dedicated, but you are also at the mercy of how many subscribers that carrier put on the DSLAM and how big their uplink pipe is to the next hop.

One way to test this is to se if your available bandwith/speed varies at certain times of the day.
