I'm relatively new with torrents, and I'm having some trouble downloading. When I first had uTorrent set up, it downloaded relatively decent (100kb/s.. thats about as fast as my isp goes even http or ftp downloading). Now I'm getting very slow speeds of 10kb/s or less per torrent, sometimes even 1kb/s.
Sometimes torrents download fast, for an example a TV show that just aired will work good. Most things go slow though. I used to get better speeds, that's what's bothering me. I used to download almost everything at at least 40-50kb/s on a bad day. Isn't something with 200 seeds and 500 peers enough to get good speeds?
I enabled Encryption which when I first started downloading was necessary. I used to download this slow, I turned on encryption and the speeds immediately went to about 100kb/s. This doesn't help anymore though.
It might just be that my wireless ISP sucks and has some kind of download limit (they don't even have a website with info?), but I'm using Azureus now, and I seem to be getting a lot of errors. The smiley face is almost always yellow too, it's sometimes blue whatever that means. I read a bunch of threads on setting up routers and stuff, but it just doesn't open ports.
I set the udp and tcp port in Azureus to 63550, a random number I just made up. I went into my D-Link router settings, and added the port under TCP and UDP, put in my IP and put a checkbox by it to enable it.
I completely disabled my Bitdefender firewall (temporarily).
I still get errors in both uTorrent and Azureus. Azureus's test tells me UDP and TCP inbound both failed and tells me to check my routers port forwarding. I see a lot of NAT errors scattered everywhere too. I did that, half a dozen times. Any idea what's going on here?
You are probably being attacked by robot things they are blocking your ports. Encryption has nothing to do with speed. If you are not encrypting you can only connect to the same and if you are you will only connect to those that are. More and faster upload will speed you along. So sometime encryption will help your speeds and sometime it will hurt depending on the mix of peers.
You also may be throttled by you ISP. However, that will not change the color of your icons.
If you forward your port you can make it real hard to block it. That is really the only thing you can do. You can also lay low for a month.
