Hi guys,

Something very very strange has been happening with my torrent escapades lately. Certain torrents - not all, I have about 30/70 success/failure rate, seemingly dependant on where i get things from - are not downloading the correct files.

I'm not talking about the fake "use windows media player" ones, or just a random incorrectly named movie. The torrents seem to be redownloading movies or episodes I've aquired or watched earlier.

For instance, I try to get "Zombieland". Instead, I get an episode of Mnemosyne, a horror anime I downloaded ages ago. A different torrent yielded the same problem. Trying to get "Paranormal Activity" brings up an episode of "Valkyria Chronicles". I don't even have to wait for the files to be downloaded: as soon as it's 0.1% downloaded, I can open it, and the videos will start playing, fully as if they were already 100% complete.

To make things more mysterious, some files aren't ones that I've ever downloaded: I acquired "Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus" from a friend. It was god awful, so I deleted it. A few torrents later, a torrent started downloading it, but it fully watchable at 0.1% as if it still existed on my HDD somewhere.

I've done all the obvious stuff: cleaned hdd, registry and caches with CClearner, virus scanned, spyware scanned, rebooted, reinstalled bittorrent, defragged, updated drivers blah blah. Nothing has helped. All I can do is check every possible torrent and pray one will eventually download the correct file.

WTF is going on? I've never heard of this before, and can't find anything about it on other forums. Any ideas? Any one?

I can't tell if this is the problem or not but seeing as you are downloading what I and others would consider new popular files it could be that you got caught in a downloaders trap.

You see the Movie/Music industries hire companies to catch users of various P2P software/protocols including BitTorrent. Now you can understand this isn't a easy task. So they use "bait"(improperly labeled music/movies) to catch there prey "downloaders'(people like you). So Paranormal Activity and Zombieland are pretty popular right now so people are going to be looking for them. So these companies will take files/films/music and rename them to match popular titles such as Zombieland and then upload them to a BitTorrent tracker. Then when users download that false/infected torrent and then connect to the BitTorrent swarm the company will be part of the swarm and track ever user they connect to. They get a list of IP's to prosecute and all the user gets is a junk file. In your case you thought you were downloading Zombieland but got Mnemosyne. I'd be willing to be money you are getting tracked and don't think for a second that programs like PG2 or PBlock protect you from everything, they don't.

Not that I've educated you on this I feel obligated to report you because well its quite obvious your pirating this content as Paranomal Activity and Zombieland are both still in theaters/just leaving theaters. And therefore not even remotely close to a retail release date!
