Audio Apps Wont Record from PC Sound

On my HP Windows 7 laptop, I now count at least 2 programs that cant
record from my.... (pick one, then explain to me also.. why 2 entries?)
Conexant Audio or Nvidia HD Audio.

anything playing to my speakers. On my W7 laptop....... the record source
is stuck on "microphone" ! , and has been for over a year.
> Now, I'm test driving ZD Screen Rercorder. It will record from my mic with
no problem, on both PCs. But it wont record sound if I set it on
"default" device, or the sound card name.....depending on which PC I'm on.
Any ideas?
