I have an AVI of 2001: A Space Odyssey, it's about 4.5GB. What I want to do is take the Pink Floyd Song "Echoes" and put it at exactly 1:54:07 in the movie, it's like Wizard of Oz and Dark Side Of The Moon...

Long story short: Since I'm using VirtualDub (or VirtualDubMod, I have both...) I know that I can't just add the song in at any part using THAT PROGRAM.

I am using VirtualDub to split the AVI so I can add the song at the very beginning of the second file, which would be at exactly 1:54:07.

I can successfully take the first part of the movie....but NO MATTER WHAT I DO when I try to section off the 2nd part, which is what I want to add the song to the beginning of, it is 100% of the time 5 seconds before where I want it.

If I want to add the song at 1:54:07, the second AVI splitted file starts at 1:54:02 EVERY SINGLE TIME! I even tried splitting the second part 5 seconds ahead, etc...still, no matter how many times I try, I end up with the exact same file.

Like I said, I have the first file exactly where I want, but I CANNOT successfully get the 2nd part.

I select the part of the movie I want with the keyframe thing and that part works but when it saves, it is ALWAYS the same length! It really boggles my mind.

Also, I tried taking the 2nd part of the file with the EXTRA 5 seconds in the beginning, and just DELETING the 5 seconds which I can do, but every time I save it, IT IS THE SAME LENGTH OF WHERE I STARTED!!!

It is DRIVING ME INSANE. It doesn't need to be PERFECTLY synced, but anywhere within the 1 second range of 1:54:07 is fine.

PLEASE someone help.

I tried using Sony Sound Forge to just layer the song on, which I can do...but when I went to save it, it took 8 hours to get to 40%...

Virtualdub, select the start and end frames of Part 1 (assume 0 to 1599).

- Video
- Full processing mode
- Smart rendering
- Compression - select the same codec that was used to encode the source video.

For Part 2 select start and end frames (assume 1599-3000).

- Video
- Full processing mode
- Smart rendering
- Compression - select the same codec that was used to encode the source video.

As long as Smart rendering and the same codec as the source is selected, the (only) encoding will be at the precise cut point.
If 'Direct Stream Copy' is used, then the cut is quietly made at the key frame - which may be a hundred frames from your selection.

Ok...one last problem. On the video frame bar, it says the frame where I want to split is frame 164176 yet when I go to Select Range, it says the frame is 39351.

Now I want to select the range for the 2nd part of the avi yet I can't find the stupid last frame in relation to the 39351 frame.

Jesus, I've been trying to do this for weeks now.

The total length of the avi is 203526 according to the frame bar thing on the bottom of the main screen.

The split is at 164176. According to Select Range, the split is somehow 39351.

How the HELL do I find the last frame in relation to the 39351 frame??

I'm not clear what would cause that problem.

I can load a movie, click 'Go' > 'Go To Frame' and insert a frame number.
The slider bar moves to that point and I click on the little half flag thingie (the right hand one) and the selection is highlighted)then I save it.
