I been having a problem with importing media

I am able to import .mpg files but all other formats including, the format my camera produces, .mp4 bring up an error. "..An error has occured..." something along this line.

I have been useing a converter, Prism Video converter

to convert the said files, but i "feel" that im loosing quality in the converstion. Is my feeling probably correct? And if so is there a way to maintain the quality, im mostly conserned with the audio. Or better yet, how can i fix the importing compatiblity. I've tried reinstalling to no avail.

When you do a re-encoding, you do lose quality, however, sometimes is just numbers on paper. If your movie still looks and sounds good, it's all that matters.

Your problem importing the mp4 files might be just a matter of having the proper codec installed. maybe it imports the audio/video codecs in your file, just in a different container.
