I am using virtualdubmod to remove subtitles. Using "msu subtitle remover" filter.
I keep getting an error message.

The message is:

"Error opening mask file!
Please make sure you specified correct spool.dir"

Can anyone tell me what this means and how I can fix the problem?
Thank you

Did you do the first pass, and set the Temp directory?
2nd pass will use the mask file created in the first pass.

Thank you for answering
Yes I did, but no luck. I've already been to that web page. I don't think it explains the process very well.

After I make the first pass and create the mask, then what is next?
Do I do the second pass the same way?
Do I "save as", "preview filtered", or what?
The web page does not explain this in detail.
I'm no expert when it comes to using virtualdubmod.
Can anyone Help?
Thank you

I tried it myself and results were poor. If I interrupted the
first pass, I couldn't get it to work again until I closed and
reopened virtualdub. I couldn't get the 2nd pass to do anything,
but I didn't spend much time on it.

The normal way these 2-pass filters work is as follows.
Set up the filter. I found the first pass defaults to be usable.

Make sure the pointer at the bottom is all the way to the left,
(frame 0), and then hit the third button, bottom left.
It has right arrow next to a tiny "o". Wait for it to finish.
This should propogate the masks in the temp folder.

Set the filter to second pass. Setup your video/compression,
then file/save as avi.

Hi LadyTaz,

The issue that you're referring to is when the temp folder in the settings for the msu subtitle remover filter doesn't exist.

At the bottom of both of these screenshots is a reference to the temp folder and by default is set to C:\TEMP. This may not necessarily exist on your machine so if you direct it to the same existing folder on both screens before running it, it should work.
