I'm new to converting files and I am using the program "Any Video Converter". I am trying to convert MKV files to AVI so that they can be watched in a Divx player.

I was having a problem with subtitles being encoded in the AVI file and I couldn't get it to encode without subtitles. I created a config file and set SID=30. There is no subtitle 30 in the MKV and this makes it encode with no subtitles, so I know the config file is working.

Now my problem is that "Any Video Converter" only allows me to select preset video bitrates when encoding. The original video bitrate of the MKV file is 1315 Kbps and I can only select 1024 or 2000 in "AVC". I don't want to lose quality by selecting 1024 and I don't want to waste space by selecting 2000.

Can I manually set the bitrate through mencoder? I tried encoding 15 seconds of the video to test it and I cant get it to work. I tried "bitrate=800", "xvidencopts bitrate=800", and "vbitrate=800" (just using 800 to test if the setting works). None of these worked, it always encodes to whatever the bitrate drop-down box is set to in AVC.
