Question about 5.1 audio in ConvertXtoDVD

I tried converting an mp4 video file to DVD format in ConvertXtoDVD. The original file had 2.0 audio, and I chose to convert it to 5.1. I'm just wondering if anyone knows how ConvertXtoDVD (and other video conversion programs), usually convert the audio from one format to another. I've played the converted video, and it doesn't sound like it has simply copied the two channels to all the new channels, but I'm guessing it wouldn't be able to do a proper 5.1 mix for that video anyway. Any ideas?
