Never had a problem with "TmpgEnc DVD Author 3 with Divx Authoring", I really enjoy making dvds with it, since it encodes the files and burns them all with one click and is very customizable. I haven't made a dvd in a while but am trying to burn a series for a friend. It opens fine, I try and load all episodes and it crashes with the "send error report?" message. I tried loading one episode (.avi format about 564mb) and it does the same thing. Thing is, I've tried Nero xpress and Cucusoft DVD Suite, and they both do the same thing when I add the clip(s).

The only time it didn't crash was in TmpgEnc when I added one much smaller file (125mb .wma) for troubleshooting purposes.

I know it sounds like more of a pc problem than a software problem, so I'm not sure if I posted this in the right place. But if anyone had the same thing happen to them any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Currently on XP sp2, no changes to the computer since before when i was problemless, main drives about 3/4s full tho

Currently running Windows XP SP2 on an Abit NF7 with AMD Athlon XP 2700+ 2.16GHz, 1.5GB RAM, AGP NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GS @256MB. WD 120GB and WD 160GB (SATA). DirectX 9.0 - SAMSUNG DVD-ROM SD-616E

Maybe the file you are trying to add isn't a standard avi. you can try converting it to something else, crop it and make sure the resolution is in multiples of 16, then add it again.

One more thing that I have encountered previously on xp is that some video files will cause programs to crash because of the thumbnail preview shell. To fix you would have to edit the registry. I included the directions in case you want to disable the thumbnail shell, that fix has worked for me before. I actually have my computer currently running with the thumbnail disable.

Issues:Explorer crashes when loading folders with movie files
From CCCP
(Redirected from Issues:Explorer.exe crashes)
Jump to: navigation, search

Description: When opening folders with movie files in them, windows explorer (the desktop) crashes.

Problem: This is a known issue with Windows XP's braindead video thumbnail thing in Explorer. Being a thing invented by MS, it's buggy and doesn't always know how to handle things not supported by MS, and occasionally fails on things it does know how to support too. Every now and again it will crash and take Explorer down with it. Easy to solve thankfully.

Solution:

Windows XP:

* Go to Start -> Run... and type

regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll

Press enter. Done. It's as simple as that. If you, for some reason want it back, simply do the same thing again, but remove the "/u". That is: Start -> Run...

regsvr32 shmedia.dll

This will only disable movie thumbnails/previews, not picture thumbnails.

TMPGEnc Xpress 4.0 crashes as well when I try to load the .avi files to convert them.

I noticed that problem with explorer on xp as well, but until now just have been working around it. Didn't know there was a fix for that, thank you very much!

I'll keep trying different things for the other problem tho and reply if I get lucky.
