PC TO TV TROUBLE

Hi
I,ve connected my laptop to my 42" samsung plasma with a vga cable.
Then gone into the display settings & attatched the 2nd moniter & then pressed the TV-OUT key.
My screensaver appears on the tv but goes off after a few seconds,
i've tried changing the resolution & the refresh rate on the laptop & also moved the No 2 screen infront of the No 1 screen in the display settings.
I dont know what im doing wrong it used to just clone the laptop until my cable became faulty.
I dont know what settings to try next. ??
