A question about custom firmware

I followed the tutorial and installed the custom firmware 5.00 m33-6 on my fat psp then I downloaded a demo of psn from my ps3 and it tells me that I need to upgrade to 5.50 to play the demo on the psp. If I update to the newer firmware will I loose the things in the custom firmware that I am now running?

Ive just upgraded to cfw 5.50 GEN-A, now available from http://www.psp-hacks.com/

Don't upgrade to non custom 5.50 version.

EVERYTHING(to my knowledge) runs on fat 1001s. They are the best.

Ok I put that update and when I tried to play the demo it said
The game could not be started.

You need to redownload, apparently authentication data stored on your flash was deleted.

(sorry it took so long, band pictures and such.)
You need to either:
A: redownload FFVII
B: Find a popstation FFVII
C: Re-authenticate your psp. (not sure how, but I think it was in account management. I'm still on 5.00 M33-6.)
