2 days ago my phat CFW 5.50 GEN-B PSP suddenly decided to give me a black screen when I turn the power on. Prior to that I did not touch the firmware for over 3 months. I could not access the recovery mode and unlike most other full/semi bricks i read about, the green light stays on and doesn't go off on its own. I don't think the screen itself is busted as I get no sound after I turn on the PSP normally.
I borrowed a pandora battery and a magic memory stick from a friend and gave it a shot, but all I get is the green light, ms access light and the wifi light and I still have a black screen.
I'm not really new to using these hacks but I seem to be running out of ideas. Any advice would be much appreciated.
once you turn it on make sure you push the volume button to see if there is infact sound. it sounds like the backlight may have went out, if you hold it in some light maybe you can see a picture? there is also a back light fuse, but i'm having a hard time because of the no sound. if the pandora battery did not work, i really do not think its bricked. it really sounds like you have a hardware issue. you may want to leave the battery out for a few hours, see if that helps. one more thing when you put the pandora in does the memory card light come one?
Yes I tried volumne and the backlight button and there were no sound/picture, and I believe the pandora battery is recognized since all the lights come on.
I thought maybe I need to turn on the PSP with pandora while holding down a hotkey, or that I need to plug in the mms, power adapter and battery in that order. Tried all that and nothing gives me a picture.
if you plug in the power cord the pandora will not work. i'm really leading towards a hardware failure. you do have to hold down the left trigger button when inserting the pandora. if you have tried that i am still thinking hardware.
