I have two psp (both 1001) one has a broken screen and one the laser went out so it doesnt read disks. I purchase a new screen with backlight ($21.00 ebay) and i also got a laser replacement ($21.00 different vendor ebay) i replaced the screen one one unit and it didnt work i took the screen off my other psp and relplace the borke one and it work. i tried the replacement screen on my other psp and it didnt work i contacted the vendor and he said it should work with 1000 and 1001 models. i told him it wasnt working on either he told me that i need to update my psp so that it would work with the new screen so my first question is, is that true that i need to update my psp and if so how? and my second question is the umd didnt work either trhaty vendor just told me to send it back and they would send me another one do i have to update for that to work also i thought both items were just plug and play any help or suggestions you guys give me will be a big help thanks sorry for the long post but i was just tryin to give you all the info

No, of course you don't have to update your PSP for the screen to work. Seems to me that the seller either has no clue of what he's selling himself or is trying to rip you off.
The same goes for the UMD drive, but that seller seems to atleast know what he's doing. Always safer to buy your stuff from www.dealextreme.com, they don't bitch around when it comes to replacements.
